Be Dead to Sin

Our repentance, often shallow
More remorse, and regret
Not turning and fleeing
From pet sins, that beset.

By Your Spirit, I’m reborn
By Your Spirit, empower
By Your Spirit, do direct
By Your Spirit, overpower.

By constant prayer, keep seeking
Lest we wander, and fall
Ever dependent, await
God’s Word and wisdom, in all.

With other cisterns, we still thirst But not the waters, Jesus gives
Becomes a fountain, within us
Springing up, forever lives.

And God warns by deserting
We become wayward people
As we drink, from broken cisterns
We commit two great evils.

In the midst of our darkness
God in mercy, send light
An awakening, to revive us
By Your Spirit, to ignite.

We’re made to give thanks
Praise God’s Holy Name
Yes, whatever our lot
Be grateful, all the same.

Shake us and wake us
Revive us O Lord
Send down the fires
May Your Spirit be poured.

With death to self-will
The way of the Cross
By grace submit all
With the Lord, ‘tis not loss.

Counting her greater
Than your own desires
The Lord will give grace
To lift her up higher.
