Purified by Fire

As His sacrifice, living
Must be holy, and pure
For we dare not present
If defiled, and impure.

God allows what He hates
To achieve what He loves
He permits man to sink
That men seek Him above.

His bloodshed, our new birth
By God’s Spirit, divine
From death, now resurrection
LORD, all the glory is Thine!

So be ready, prepare
For our freedom is fading
Our faith is attacked
Great wickedness, invading.

God assures we shall pass
Yes, thru’ deep waters go
But He will be with us
They shall not overflow.

The LORD gives, and He takes
He rules, as He will
He is sovereign, all powerful
So be quiet, and still.

Our Master Craftsman ceases not
With skillful hands of love
To weave our lives, to that of Christ
Sat glorified above.

Control and compel me
Conform me to Christ
Consume all the dross
His blood has sufficed.

When God makes a promise
It never can fail
Tho’ the vessels He uses
Seem often, so frail.

Amidst sorrows of suffering
And thorns of the flesh
Is God’s grace sufficient
Can we trust Him afresh?
